    TPS at Idle

Guys - Thanks for the reply. I typed faster than I was thinking. The voltage tests were done with the ignition on. ALLDATA for 99 Cherokee says range with throttle closed should be 0.26-0.95v. That compares with the "greater than 200 mv and 0.8v specs you passed on. My TPS meets the spec...

    TPS at Idle

Been troubleshooting an intermittant miss at idle - '99 Cherokee 4.0 Auto 4X4. My OBD II scanner shows that the TPS is sending a signal of 15% throttle opening at idle (even though I'm not pressing on the throttle). Signal voltage form the TPS with the ignition off is 0.78 votls (within the...

    Normal Operating Temp

Thanks for the responses - 205-210 degrees just seems to be much hotter that any of my other vehicles are running. I might consider going to a 180 degree stat - don't know if that will cause a trouble code to set.

    Normal Operating Temp

I purchased a '99 XJ 4X4 4.0 automatic last week and I'm going through the vehicle now to catch up on the maintenance. I noticed that the temp gauge hovers near or on the 210 degree marking on the gauge. Seems a little high if the thermostat is 195. What is "normal" for a Cherokee 4.0L...

    XJ Pinion Seal Replacement

Thanks for the great advice. Looks like just the front differential is leaking from the pinion seal, makes a a drop or two every time it's driven, the case is pretty oily. If the goal is to get the yoke tighted down to where it was originally, maybe it would be worthwhile to measure the length...

    XJ Pinion Seal Replacement

Re: Biggest jeep wave ever! Just purchased a '99 Cherokee Classic 4WD - my first Jeep! Noticed some minor leaking from both the front and rear differential pinion seals (109K on the clock). The AllData subscription that I have shows a very elaborate method to replace the seals which includes...

    Looking to by Cherokee (XJ?)

Thanks for the feeback. I don't plan on going off road or lifting the vehicle - so going to a 97 or later would be OK if I can find one for a reasonable cost. 3:55 gears would be fine. I would assume that earlier vehicles are slightly lighter (which is better). I've read that there are 2...

    Looking to by Cherokee (XJ?)

I'm thinking of buying a 90-96 Cherokee 4 door I6/auto 4X4 to help me get around during the winter on fairly decent mountain roads. I have to drive on the highway quite a bit so gas mileage/relaibility is a concern also. What would be the best year(s) to look for. Any Cherokee specific...
