Have noticed a rattle that seems to be coming through the exaust. when i give it a little gas it goes away. not there all the time. could it be a loose timing chain?

Remembering a time when I would be driving along and suddenly it would slow down and speed up(jerking). Giving it more pedal wouldn't seem to make much change. Ended up installing fuel pump.
