Also, in reference to the gearboxes, I read that the '00 and '01 use the NV3550 gearbox. Is this a better gearbox than the ax15??

Not to beat this topic to death but I'm wondering what model year xj 5 speed is preferable and why. I've been looking for an '00 or '01 simply because I read the engine is a little better and because it has an electronic ignition. But if anyone wants to change my mind to a '97-'99 feel free.

I'm not sure why but trucks are expensive in central VA. It's not just me, everyone says the same. So really, for here, this is a good deal, maybe without all the needed repairs though. I guess it is overpriced though, thanks.

Could someone elaborate on that last post? I am assuming the 4 cylinder would offer better mileage over the 6. Also, wow is it ever hard to find manuals anymore!!!

Thank you all for your input as I am learning a lot about the Cherokee. I still think it can't be beat for what I'm looking for, except maybe fuel mileage but you can't have it all. Looks like the 6 is a killer engine but I'm going to opt for the 4 just to save gas as I don't envision towing...
