My dreams of owning a '98-01 XJ with a 5 speed seem to be shot. I have been shopping for a month, almost nonstop and can't find a decent manual Cherokee.
I hate to own an automatic transmission but may have to in this case. Can anyone give me some pointers on checking the condition/life of...
Not to beat this topic to death but I'm wondering what model year xj 5 speed is preferable and why. I've been looking for an '00 or '01 simply because I read the engine is a little better and because it has an electronic ignition. But if anyone wants to change my mind to a '97-'99 feel free.
Thanks guys I really appreciate the kick in the pants, I needed it. Not sure but wow once the jeep bug bites you you're done. Just can't wait for my first but I'll keep waiting and searching.
BTW it is really annoying how few manuals transmission Cherokees are out there!!
I'm not sure why but trucks are expensive in central VA. It's not just me, everyone says the same. So really, for here, this is a good deal, maybe without all the needed repairs though.
I guess it is overpriced though, thanks.
If I posted this in the wrong topic, mods please move.
Anyway, I've been searching forever to find the Jeep I want and I may have found it but I need advice. The Cherokee I'm looking at buying is an 01, 5spd and has all the goodies I want in my jeep, even the blue color I would have chosen if...
I found this on another site, perhaps too much info is just as bad as not enough, but can someone help me decipher the meaning of this:
"Look for a 97-99: you get all the mechanical benefits of the non-DIS inline 6 and the cosmetic benefits of the styling refresh.
ALSO: if you MUST buy a DIS...
Could someone elaborate on that last post? I am assuming the 4 cylinder would offer better mileage over the 6. Also, wow is it ever hard to find manuals anymore!!!
Thank you all for your input as I am learning a lot about the Cherokee. I still think it can't be beat for what I'm looking for, except maybe fuel mileage but you can't have it all. Looks like the 6 is a killer engine but I'm going to opt for the 4 just to save gas as I don't envision towing...
Daily driver basically, with an added capability of going offroad if the need arises. I would definitely be doing some lighter towing on the weekends with it too. I guess fuel economy is my number one concern and that's why I was looking at the 4. I read that there were a couple of different...
I am looking to purchase a Jeep Cherokee as I think it has the best "bang-for-the-buck" in the 4WD SUV market.
There are so many model years and models I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. There are a number of different engine/transmission options, I just need...
