    4.0 Won't start / stay running

This may sound like an odd question, but have you checked your battery and alternator? I had a similar problem with my Jeep in Dec (died, wouldn't start, then would start but would die if you took your foot off the gas, etc.), and it ended up being a bad alternator.

    97 Cherokee Sport -- Electrical/Charging Problem

Well, for me it was the alternator. Replaced it and no further issues.

    this is bad indeed.

Heh. Well thats what I get for looking at generic DTC's instead of specific by year huh? :)

    this is bad indeed.

Well, code 12 means "no distributor pulse" and 55 means "ECM fault"... Hope that gives you some direction :)

    Turns off whe it wants

Have you actually taken a good look at your radiator? I just replaced mine because I found a crack (hairline) around the passenger side tank that only leaked while the car was being driven hard. There was evidence of dried coolant spray on the inside of the front end housing (both behind the...

Out of curiosity, what things have you replaced? What things have you run diagnostics on? Alternator? Battery?

Need help tracking down a part

Okay, so I've had my 97 cherokee sport for 8 out of its 11 years and finally the pneumatic cylinder looking things on the trunk that hold it open for you have gone kaput. Problem is, I don't know what they're called, and the part numbers have worn off due to use, so I have no idea what to...

    1988 Rad replace

I actually just got a new radiator from radiatorbarn less than a week ago. Had zero problems other than that their shipment tracking system didn't really seem to work. That aside, I got my radiator in less than 48 hours (I ordered it on a Sunday though, so really I probably got it in 24) and...

    4 wheel drive help

Have you tried checking the lightbulb? One of the funniest (and frustrating) incidents I've had with working on a car involved lights that wouldn't come on. Checked all the wiring (traced it all the way from battery to light fixture and back again), checked everything we could think of, only...

    97 Cherokee Sport -- Electrical/Charging Problem

Well, just from testing voltages, it would seem that the alternator is shot. Not surprising, really, as we've never replaced it before. Gonna throw a new one in and hope that fixes the problem. Who'd have thought the alternator going out would cause the engine to die out with a fully charged...

    97 Cherokee Sport -- Electrical/Charging Problem

No problem, and thanks. Ground connections and loose wires are already on the list as "check cables and connections" so I'm definitely going to be doing that (some of it this afternoon in fact). Any direction on how to test the voltage regulator? It's part of the ECM, so I'm not entirely sure...

    97 Cherokee Sport -- Electrical/Charging Problem

Evening all, and I hope you're having a happy holidays. Unfortunately, I'm not. This year's "holiday excitement" was my jeep dying on the way to the annual family get together :( Problem started with an intermittent "check gauges" light on the dash -- voltmeter was showing nil when the light...
