A man with too much money

1067528 OK now, didn't mom ever tell you it's not nice to talk about people behind their backs? ;-) Too much money? I'd have to agree with Alaskan... No such thing. Besides, I've seen A LOT of people spend way more than I did, and walk away far less equiped. Like you mentioned Shane, I...

1067538 Thanks Tug, So where are the bulk of the members located? I saw Chicago mentioned in one of the threads. Is everyone primarily in the midwest?[addsig]

    max lift

1067595 I'd say 2" is the max lift you can do without ANY other modifications. If you install shims between your skid plate and frame to drop the back of the driveline, you can go with a 4" lift, but the 31's would start looking pretty small at that point. Your best option besides the skid...

    double cardon cv shaft

1067596 They don't have to be $800. I'm sure you could find some bling-bling joint all chromed out or something for that price :-D You can pick up a complete drive shaft with a double cardon joint from Tom Wood's for under $400. I'd guess the D.C. joint by itself is in the $100...

    battery

1067598 Your new alternator should be charging your battery. If you don't see 14v on the volt meter, take your battery to Pep Boys, or Sears, or somewhere they can test it. They'll do a load test to see if the battery is functioning under load. They can also hook it up to a quick charger and...

1067735 That would be fun, but I'm WAY out west.... and south... Almost Mexico, almost in the Pacific.[addsig]

A man with too much money

1067736 Damn, nice engine. Fuel injected I hope. I always cringe when I seen such a drastic upgrade to a Jeep, but then see a carb on the top. Jeeps like to climb steep hills, carb's don't. I never did an engine swap in mine, but I always planned to. With the larger tires and heavier...

A man with too much money

1067818 Actually, my gearing is only 75:1. In the rock crawling world, that's a touch on the fast side. 100:1 is the holy grail, IMHO. I hear Advanced Adaptors is playing with the idea of a 5:1 Atlas case. That would put me at 93:1 and that's close enough. :-D [addsig]

A man with too much money

1068063 Most of the time, 75:1 has been fine. But once in a while, 100:1 would have been nice. I could always put it in 2nd to get to the 75:1 area if I wanted :-D 4.88's in the axles.[addsig]

Who's got the best homemade jeep stuff?

1068067 Just about everything on my Jeep is home made (or at least "home modified"). :-D York mount ;-) Front bumper / frame work Steering box relocation Roll cage Rocker Panels Shock hoops Rear bumper / tire carrier 3" body relocation Flat skid plate Rear 4-link /w Fox Coil-overs (under...

    Too low of a gearing?

1068107 Depends on the primary wheel'n you like to do. If it's mostly mud, then 4.11's would be fine, IMO. If you're talking about rock crawling and stuff like that (slower), then you're gonna end up replacing those 4.11's with 4.56 or 4.88's down the road. I have a calc on my web that's...

Who's got the best homemade jeep stuff?

1068122 Nice words Tug, and I agree 100%! Rock, my rear bumper is also from 2x4 1/4" rectangle tubing. I didn't bother with the air tight setup though because I wanted a completely flush mount mount with the back of the frame. The main hinge for the tire swing is a trailer axle stub...

Who's got the best homemade jeep stuff?

1068246 The body is relocated 3" higher.... No pucks... Also the engine is up 3" like you figured.[addsig]
