96 Cherokee - need ECM

96 Cherokee been running fine, suddenly would not start, would crank, just wouldn’t start. Replaced the obvious - coil, crank sensor, distributor. Finally figured out it was the engine control module. Sent it off to a guy who repairs them, but he sent it back stating it was beyond repair. Jeep dealer says they no longer make them for the 1996’s. If anyone has any ideas about where to get a rebuilt ECM for a 1996 Cherokee, I’d sure appreciate it. This is my wife’s vehicle. She loves it and she’s not happy right now. Thank you in advance.
Update: using the P/N I found on the black case over the ECM and VIN, I’ve located and ordered a rebuild ECM. Should be here by end of next week. I’ll post an update on how it turns out. If okay on this site, I don’t mind listing the company name and price too. Maybe help someone else.

Update: Jeep is running again! Ordered a rebuilt ECM from ProTech Auto Systems (contact info below) on 3/5/26. Received on 3/12/26. Price was $599 which included shipping and 1 yr warranty. I upgraded to 3 yr warranty for additional $50 and paid an extra $30 for expedited shipping. So total paid was $679. You may find one cheaper but these guys had pretty good reviews, so I went with them. Hope this helps someone. Thank you to everyone who answered my post and tried to help me. Let me just say I like the old vehicles before all this computerized BS.
Note - right after installation, the vehicle acted like it didn’t want to start. I thought of all the times I tried to start it while I was working on it, and figured the fuel injectors had been pumping in fuel, so I reached under the hood and opened the throttle to give it some air while my wife turned the key, and she started right up.

I think the guy's site is www.wranglerfix.com

He is all over forums and has a great reputation. He does other things than wranglers
