68 cj5 need opinion on price

I would say a 43 year old vehicle with less than 10,000 miles for under $2000 sounds too good to be true. My gut instinct is that there is a catch somewhere...

    Uh Oh... (t-case/SYE)

It is definitely leaking where they sealed the case with RTV. On closer inspection it is not as bad as I initially thought but it still needs to be fixed. Also there is a bit of oil coming out of the seal at the end of the SYE (i.e. at the u-joint where the driveshaft is attached).

    Uh Oh... (t-case/SYE)

So I finally got around to re-installing my Rusty's engine/oil pan skid that I pulled off at Christmas when I discovered that it interfered with my front driveshaft when the front axle droops offroad after installing my 4" lift. I notched it to clear the driveshaft but hadn't gotten around to...

    Hello from the DC area

Why are the rear springs red but the fronts are black? That's kind of odd. Those shocks look an awful lot like Skyjacker Hydro 7000s but I could be wrong. Oh, by the way, that's a real nice lookin' TJ. I like those wheels. I'm going to have to pick up some similar wheels when I upgrade to 35s.

    Hello from the DC area

If you want to know some wheelin' sites, you can go to Green Ridge State Forest in Maryland (take 270 to Frederick, hit 70 West to Hancock, take 68 West towards Cumberland, it's only about 10 miles after you get on 68 - I think it's exit 62 or something like that? It's a free 18 mile long ORV...

What are the best models for a trail ride jeep?

I want to preface this by clarifying that when you say "trail rider" I am going to assume you are talking about real trails and not simply dirt roads. That said, I hate to tell you that you're probably going to want to stay away from the Grand Cherokee if you're looking for a trail rig...

    help!! :(

Ok, I'll try one more time...I don't mean any offense, I just want to make sure you get the point. Let's say for example you go to your local junkyard and they have a YJ identical to yours and they also have a '95+ XJ sitting next to it. You can pull the axles/ball joint out of either vehicle...

    New offroad park in PA

When is the next meeting? I'm more than willing to go and support the park if I don't have a prior commitment, but I don't know how much influence I would have since I don't live locally and would be coming up from the Baltimore area. I'm afraid my opinion would just get dismissed.

    help!! :(

Well, the point is that you have to replace them anyway and you can get slightly stronger parts readily available from your local junkyard (most likely), so why *wouldn't* you upgrade in this case?

what parts (if any) should i keep around after the fire department puts out jeep?

Like Bounty Hunter said, it depends on the extent of the damage. If it was pretty bad, I would venture to say it wouldn't be worth the trouble to save the engine. About the only thing(s) that might be worth salvaging are the axles if they are desirable, and if the fire was contained to the...

will a 4" lift be enough?

Maybe you should've asked this question BEFORE you bought the wheels and tires? But anyway, yeah, they'll fit but you might have some rubbing issues when you're flexing the suspension off road, depending on the offset.

    tj lift question

If I am understanding your question correctly, you will at least need something with longer lower control arms to make a 4" lift work. Keep in mind that without adjustable (i.e. aftermarket) upper control arms at least for the rear you will not be able to install an SYE kit so you will be forced...

    New offroad park in PA

Reading through the discussions/posts on the "Yes, Yes, Yes" facebook page, it would appear that the locals are in fact totally insane. It's a shame too...I don't understand why they are so opposed to boosting the local economy. Somebody should tell them that if they hadn't run the Knosps out of...

    79 CJ7 or 99 TJ???

I remember when the wheels on that CJ were considered "cool". Does Ultra Wheels (the manufacturer) still exist? My sister's first car was a used old Mazda 626 that had those same wheels on it. Anyway, sorry for the derail, back to the topic at hand... I would say it depends on what your...

A reason to wear your seatbelt

Wow...that hill really didn't even look that difficult to be honest with you (at least coming down it anyway). Maybe it's just the video but I was trying to figure out why she even needed a spotter. And right before she rolled you could tell she was tapping the brake and the right rear was...

Ome vs bds 2 inch lift tj

OME is a very respected brand, but to be honest I would have a really hard time recommending anyone drop $800 on a 2" lift. I would say get a Rubicon Express budget lift or Rough Country lift for $200-250 and if you have $800 to spend, you can grab some rocker guards or upgrade your tires or...

Can I leave it in there..

Lubelockers are totally worth it, in my opinion. I paid like $15 a piece for them from 4WD Hardware. I had so much trouble getting a good seal on my diffs...I had trouble getting the covers on without screwing up the bead. With the Lubelockers, what I do is put a little bit of silicone on one...

Can I leave it in there..

You're going to have to drain it and start over. You're asking for trouble if you try to drive with the cap in there.

    Jeep Door Leak

I occasionally have drivers side leakage issues in my TJ. It's hard to figure out where it's coming from. Seems to always be right around the pedals.
