    U-joints

I'm going to get some custom made driveshafts soon, and am going to have to decide what size u-joint to go with. The Jeep is going to have a ~330lb/ft stroker turning 35" tires with lockers, and will see some hard wheeling. Any recommendations on u-joint sizes? The rear will be a CV if it makes...

    Plans for the 4th-- Poll

Leaving tomorrow afternoon with some friends for Lake Tahoe (in CA near the Rubicon), staying in a hotel until Wednesday, going to the beach, BBQ, beer, blowing things up, maybe checking out the casinos on the NV side, and watching the fireworks over the lake. If it's anything like last year, it...

    35's...

I think what I'll do is install the axles w/o rebuilding or regaring them (they have either 3.55 or 3.71, I can't remember) and bolt on my 32's. If the Jeep feels safe cruising at 80mph, I'll go with 4.56...if it doesn't feel safe at that speed or doesn't go that speed, I'll go with 4.88.

    Claws vs. wrangler mt/r's...

If the mud is realy knarly or deep, then the only tire you would want to run is a Swamper. If you've been able to get through most of the mud around you in bfg a/t's though, then any offroad tire should do. I would choose the mt/r over the claw. I run bfg mud terrains and they do great on trails...

    other jeeps

Whatever floats your boat...I personally don't see a reason to make a Jeep look like anything other than a Jeep, but if you want to be unique...or sort of unique, I guess, since Hummers don't usually come in small.

    regear questions

It's a compromise; 4.56 for better low speed performance and 4.10 for better highway performance and fuel economy. The 4.56 would help with the increased mass of the tires, but if it were up to me, I would look elsewhere to compensate for this...such as engine mods and weight reduction, but...

    35's...

I've been reconsidering a few planned modifications to my CJ, and was wondering, what's the fastest you would want to go with 35's on a CJ7? It will have 58" wide scout axles, a sway bar, RE suspension with shackle reversal, rancho rs9000 shocks, and agr steering...maybe even a trac bar if it...

    regear questions

Corrupt, that is the most thurough gear ratio/tire size calculator I have ever seen; it's gone strait into the bookmarks. With all the options for trannies, tires, and axle ratios, it got me thinking about modding my Jeep...

    regear questions

According to this tire/gear chart http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/assets/!!!---CHARTS---!!!/chart_gear-ratio.htm, the difference in rpm between 4.11 and 4.56 with 33's is 298rpm. 4.11 is probably the most practical and commonly used gear ratio with 33's, unless you are dealing with an older...

TJ - No Top - Amp Location

You could always install a computer fan to cool the amp if it doesn't get very good air circulation...maybe $10 at Fry's.

    regear questions

4.11 is pretty much the standard gear ratio for 33" tires. With the engine you have, I really don't see a problem with power or acceleration with 4.11 gears. With 4.56, your highway rpm will be almost 300 higher than with 4.11's. 4.11 would be my vote, but if the Jeep doesn't see many highway...

    Supplied air respirator

The kit includes a mask, 50ft hose, and oil-less air pump with filter. Right now my plan is to just blast and paint the Jeep body and frame, but I know that I will come up with plenty of other projects that need sand blasting and painting down the road...figured I might as well get the supplied...

    Supplied air respirator

I've been looking at supplied air respirators for when I sandblast and paint my Jeep. I'm not looking to spend too much, but don't want something that will jeopardize my safety. I noticed some units that are sold pretty frequently on ebay, they are the blue survivair ones, i think the model is...

    Starting a jeep project

For a streetable Jeep with 44" tires, I would vote XJ, just because it will handle better with tires that big. A CJ will probably be the easiest to work with b/c the technology is so old and the design is so simple, but the TJ's definately are more comfortable on the street and have better...

    Racing Seats?

Anyone have experience with Corbeau Baja Ultra SS seats? I just came accross a pair, near new, for $200. I'm gonna check them out, and if they are decent, well $200/pair sure beats $240/each.

How far did that Jeep make it into that mud pit? Maybe 5 feet? I usually get at least 10 feet into mud pits like that before I get bogged down. lol.

    35 spline dana 44?

Well apparently Moser uses their own "special alloy" that is induction hardened, which makes me think it something close to 1541, and Superior does use 4340, but does not make 33 spline shafts for the Scout dana 44. Anyone know where I can get 33 or 35 spline 4340 axle shafts for a Scout rear end?

    Terrain

I like everything all in one trail...aka California. So rocks, mud, hills, technical dirt parts, and lets not forget the all-important flat parts that let you drift around the corners and catch some air.
