    Poor man's overhaul?

Run through a can or two of carb/injector cleaner.

Save yourself $500, don't do this.

Total over-reaction. I brought the shifter lever into the jeep dealer and have ordered a new one for $53. The myopic old timer I spoke to on the phone read the decimel in the wrong place. The vice grip does look really redneck though, I'll be quasi sad to see it go:)

Save yourself $500, don't do this.

SteelHeadz, where did you go to look that up? I found the entire transmission on Quadratec for 2k. It doesn't seem right, the price I was quoted, I mean, It's just a stupid piece of rod with a special bushing on one end! I wonder if the guy knew what he was talking about. I've looked all over...

Save yourself $500, don't do this.

Here's the transmission and the shifter piece which is black. That little aneurysmal thing at the bottom is filled with rubber. How can this be 500 bucks?

Save yourself $500, don't do this.

So I cut a corner on my 4" short arm skyjacker and opted for the T case lowering kit instead of the longer rear CV drive shaft. Saved me $300, right? Wrong. The shifter handel on my Rubicon bumped the console in 6th and reverse. So....I disconnected the shifter handle where it bolts on top of...

    Another Lift question

This is a great and informative thread. I always have my notebook out and pencil sharp when bounty and steelheadz are posting. Thank you guys. Regarding the origional question: "Do you guys think there will be a problem with drive train vibrations, death wobble are any thing else switching...

Why do you need an air tank.

I think the main goal for me at this stage is just the compressor, most likely a 12V. I need to air up/down and not rely on my buddy's 12V system. A belt driven compressor unit may be a little overkill for me at this point. Thanks for all the advice.

Why do you need an air tank.

Thanks Utah jeepster. Also, Johnny and I have reconciled through personal e-mail and I appologize to all for our brief childish interaction. I've never broken and axle or needed a welder while on trail, so I guess that probably does mean that I'm not running on extremely hard trails. But I am...

Why do you need an air tank.

Ouch Johnny, I guess this isn't quite as friendly a forum as I'd thought. I guess I've been able to do everything I've needed so far with a rechargable battery powered unit, like my dewalt: cutting sheetmetal with a sawzall or die grinder, grinding off a rusted nut, drilling a hole. I've never...

Why do you need an air tank.

So, basically the only reason is to turn on the compressor 5-10 minutes before you need it so the tank will be full and you can air up faster? Everyone mentions air tools but I've never seen anyone bust out an air grinder/cutter, chissel, sander, etc. Perhaps I'd be better off getting just a...

Why do you need an air tank.

I've made the decision, I'm going to get a compressor. All I need it for is airing up-down my own or a buddy's tires. I'm also a guy who likes to do things the right way one time, as opposed to piecing it together later. So... when the guy at 4wheel parts tries to sell me a tank setup as...

    after market lights...

I have two 500 watt helas wired into the harness where the fog lamps used to be. They can't be used in high beam, but I've got many hours on them and never had a problem. Actually, I think I've seen a post on here somewhere which explains how to bypass the "low beam only" function of the fog...

    95 wrangler se problem

As you were up and down from deer camp and the air cooled and warmed multiple times, you may have accumulated some moisture in your gas tank. Water sinks to the bottom, where the fuel intake is. Spend $1.00 on 2 cans of HEAT (isopropyl alcohol fuel conditioner) to get rid of the moisture...

    Roof rack/Rear heater

I have a Kargo Master rack for carrying extra gear. I really like it because you take out the two bolts on the front and the entire thing swings up over the jeep and lays on the ground to the rear, making it easy to change tops or put the soft top up/down. I also have 4 500w Helas mounted to...

    Need more room under hood.

I've also seen conflicting data about how to wire a dual battery. Several websites make reference to and recommend a battery isolator which charges both batteries but isolates one for accessories and keeps one for starting the jeep. I've also heard to wire the batteries in series, which uses...

    no 4x4 light

As with many things small things that you're likely going to notice wrong with a 10 yr old vehicle, you've gotta decide how much work and time you're willing to invest. Personally, I wouldn't chase the problem or rip the dash apart. I'd just drive it.

I have extra money, but dont know how to spend it..

Or...another option is just to keep it, wheel it and get as much experience as you can untill it dies. It sounds like it's got good rubber, that coupled with the fact that it's already a jeep means great fun on any trail. Get a $20 set of sway bar disconnects for starters, then perhaps you...
