Here’s the part that fixed the problem: MasterPro Ignition 3 Terminal Crankshaft Position/Angle Sensor - 2-96126 Might be splitting hairs, but looks like a CPS measures CKP. At least I found the right part googling CPS, and it does mount quite inconveniently on the bell housing.

It has to be factory—I bought this XJ as a lease return at two years old. Was hoping someone had tried it before, but the point is moot now—had my local shop replace it. No big deal if you have a lift…. Thanks for responding!
