1979 j10 258 Motor Stalls While Giving Gas Uphill and then Wont Crank After Being Shut Off.

My 1979 J10 with almost 90k miles will start up and run fine, it will climb hills and accelerate for 5 minutes. After that it starts to bog down and I have to let off the gas in order to not kill it going up hills and trying to go faster than about 40 mph. I have 4-5 psi of fuel pressure and I have .5L of fuel every 30 seconds so I don't think fuel getting to the carb is the problem, could it be the carburetor? It has the Carter BBD 2 barrel carb in it. I have taken it apart and cleaned it, not rebuilt it, and everything seems to be working fine. I am not sure how to tune it but I don't think that would cause this problem. Additionally after I turn it off, it will not start! I am 16 and have no experience with carburetors so anybody that does, PLEASE HELP!( I have also dropped the tank and cleaned all the lines, so that would not affect it either.)

google using a vacuum gage on a carb and you will find youtube videos on how to tune your carb.

is your exhaust maybe clogged?

there are also ways to tune you carb by ear, but they are not nearly as effective as a vacuum gage. i grew up with carbs and didn't have a vacuum gage till i had my 87 wrangler. i never knew what i was missing because the improvement i got using hte gage versus by ear/feel was amazing.

Thanks, I am going to check the exhaust and try to tune the carb right now.
