88yj oil blowing into air filter can...

I have a 88YJ with a 4.2L I6, and oil is blowing back from the valve-cover to the air filter can (via a hose) and saturating the oil filter... THis seems to greatly reduce the air-flow to the carb and is increasing my fuel consumption noticeably. Is this a common problem, and is there an easy fix? I have not been able to figure out what would cause oil to blow back with such force. Should there be a check-valve something similar that is malfunctioning at the top of the valve-cover where the hose to the air-filter can exits? Help...?

Thanks

Although it addresses Cherokees, this article gives a good explanation of what is happening and how to fix it. Part numbers may or may not be correct for your vehicle, but at least the part names will be, and you can cross reference them for the proper numbers.

Hope this helps! I'm sure there are others here who can give better ideas on what is happening and how to fix it, but at least that'll give you a starting point.
