$970 for steering gear box too much???

Help with Hi-Lift jack

I just found out that my steering gear box is leaking. I called the dealership and asked for a quote and they said $670 for a new gearbox and $200 for labor.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever had this problem? If so, how much did you pay to get it fixed?

Here's a link from the same problem...I got the same price, and the top seal was bad also. I ended ep buying a pep-boys box (lifetime warrenty) and did the job for under three hundred.

What steering box are you looking for?

2000 Wrangler is a TJ, and you can get used steering boxes at Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market . Install a '98 Durango box if you want an upgrade to handle larger tires, bolts right in.

You should be able to find a regular shop that can do it for half of what the stealership is charging.
