Well i got a few things figured out today. as some of you have read, i've had a few dirveline problems lately, and i've been trying to work them out. i've had a squeak while driving, and an occasional pop in 4wd.
well i went to autozone and got me a quart of AFT for my transfer case, thinking she might have been dry. well... i was gonna put it in right in the parking lot and found i didnt have the right tools, and i wanted to get it up on some stands or ramps. so i went to my buddy's house, put it up on some stands, and i had him drive while i laid under the jeep to listen for my squeak... sure enough, it is EXACTLY what i thought it was. it was a bad universal in my driveshaft. because of the way stuff sat when i put in the new transmission and lifted it, the driveshaft was at a pretty steep angle. a few days ago i cut a part of my skid plate out and relieved some of the problem to let my Tcase sit lower. because i did that, my centering bolt was loose.
that sucker was quite rusted, and i could not get it outta there... so i decided to cut it and replace it. it was a pain, but i got that done. went to the hardware store, they were closed... so i had to go across town to another store, spending more time than i wanted to, and got it all taken care of.
well... after replacing the bolt, i decided i could live with a sqeak knowing that it was just a dry universal joint. i figured since its been some time already, that i could just let it go until i got some time to replace it.... well, while on my test drive after tightening up my transmission outrigger, i got a bad slam and some NASTY vibration. I knew right then what happened. I looked down, and there was the universal, pulled apart. my C-clip was missing and the cap popped out. and to my surprise, there were NO needle bearings left at all. there was my squeak.
by now it was 6:50 and autozone was to close in ten minutes. so i called them up and told them to hold a universal for me. i got there in 3 minutes with time to spare... but they were closed, and the new kid at the desk would not acknowledge me at the door. so i had to deal with driving wrong-wheel-drive til i got home.
here's my bad news.... on the way home... i could drive WWD fine, no vibrations, no squeaks... except when i turned... then there's my CRACK, POP, SNAP SNAP....
i'm guessing it is my wheel joint universal... i'm hoping its something simple... but i know those are a pain in the @#$%^&* to replace. maybe its just dry and needs some grease.... but maybe i'm just hoping for the best when i know i'm not going to be happy.
haha.. sorry to take up all your time with such a long novel... but i have nothing better to do at 4:20AM[addsig]
