Looks like the old bird kicked the bucket sometime this afternoon. Tis a shame. I'm not Catholic, so it doesn't mean much more to me than just another person who has died, but I know there are Catholics all over the world feeling a great sense of loss and mourning.
I remember just before he was elected to the position (or whatever it's called when the choose a new one) that the three before him all died within a few months of each other. Pretty strange time that was.
Ya know, it's just a thought, but after seeing how frustrated he was with not being able to speak during Holy Week, I just wonder if he willed himself to die?
I'd say he was one of the more outspoken Popes, and made a lot of changes for the Catholic church. Some that were long overdue, and some that brought a lot of separation and anger from older Catholics around the world. It'll be interesting to see what the next one will bring to the pointy hat.
Guess we'll have to wait for the puff of white smoke to find out, huh?
