HELP! Compass 2008: Engine Runs, Dash Dead, Transmission Stuck, TIPM/IOD Issue?

Hi everyone,

I’m having a recurring issue with my 2008 Jeep Compass and hoping someone here has seen the same problem.

Symptoms:

• Engine starts, but the dashboard stays completely off.
• Transmission won’t shift (stuck in Park).
• Headlights turn on automatically, radio/clock work, windows and blower work (but no A/C).
• Key fob and “unlock all doors” button don’t respond.
• Interior lights don’t come on when opening doors.

Temporary Fix:
Shut down the engine, remove IOD fuses #7 & #8 for 30 seconds and put them back restores everything, but it only works once per start.

What I’ve Tried:

• Replaced the TIPM (fuse box) with a used one — worked for 2-3 weeks, then the problem returned.

This is getting really frustrating. Has anyone dealt with this? Any permanent solution? It’s becoming unbearable!

If replacing the TIPM worked temporarily, I'd keep pulling at that thread. Perhaps you have a bad connection / ground somewhere along those lines. I would get some electronics cleaner and clean all the connections you can, including the ground on your battery cables.

Thank you for your replay.
I indeed tried to clean all the connectors, tested another TIPM (also from a junkyard), made sure that the negative ground battery cable is well placed, clean and well connected to the car body but none of that fixed the issue.
