Lost transponder key

So I lost the only transponder key to my jeep today. My question is if I buy a ignition and key from a junk yard will it work or will it have to be programmed?

The PCM will look for the key and not start the jeep without it. Call a few dealers or a locksmith. Some dealers will program the PCM/key for free if you purchase it from them.

Is this for an 06 TJ? I ask because I didn't know they had transponders.

What year? My 2002 allowed me to program a new key if I had two already programmed keys. I didn't and had to pay the dealer to program a new one.

About 4 months after paying $$ for the new key, the previous owner sent me the other key. NOW I have three keys and don't plan to lose two at a time.

Sorry for not making it my own thread. Thanks for moving it. It's an 01 TJ. and it was the only let I had. Stupid I know but just never got around to the dealership to get another.
