nsg 370 clutch slave question

hi all...first post ever !

i have a 2005 tj with nsg 370 6 speed with 43000k, clutch release bearing just went. clutch pressure plate and release bearing have been replaced but i,m not sure about my hydraulic clutch slave.

i noticed the slave extends to full stroke when installing, it doesn,t actuate the fork its not strong enough, but it does push against the
fork constantly, which makes me question the correct release bearing preload,

it seems to me the fork is and will continually keep the release bearing in contact with the fingers on the pressure plate.

shouldn,t there be a gap so the release bearing doesn,t turn all the time, only when engaging the clutch?

the slave does collapse, and the fluid does return to the bottle, it does actuate the clutch. There must be a spring internally to extend the piston, it allways extends to full stroke when not installed.

an ideas?

maybe this is why the clutch /release failed to begin with.

thanks
Dan

The throw out bearing does not have a gap between the pressure plate and the bearing surface on the TJ's hydraulic clutch design. This ensures the proper adjustment of the slave cylinder to enable a full travel each time the master cylinder is depressed.Clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and connecting line are serviced as an assembly only. Components cannot be overhauled or serviced separately. Cylinders and connecting line are sealed units. Just because the bearing is against the pressure plate doesnt mean that its engaged.

Thanks SteelHeadz

I,m aware the units are non servicable, was just curious about the longevity of the release bearing .

If i understand corectly the bearing can be turning all the time.
engaged or not.

Thanks

Yes, that is correct. Hence, there's been a lot of complaint on gear like noise when the clutch is disengaged and goes away when the clutch is depressed.

Thanks Again SteelHeadz

I guess thats why the noise has disapeared.

unfortunately my first to second gear change is not meshing well, all the other gears are fine including reverse.

i did notice the input shaft bearing has some play so the input bearing is suspect
so are my first to second sychro.

The transmissions warrantied so i,ll be back, unfortunately some how the dealer failed to notice the two inside brake pads on the front of the vehicle were incorrectly installed for about 17000 km, even with my brake complaints and service.

so the vehicle was pushing the two inside pads intermitantly for a long time.
once removed and replaced, the front axles seals, wheel bearings, rear pinion let go.

I,m sure that didn,t help the clutch.

for the moment i,m just getting to know my jeep to get a grip on things.

thanks for your info.
