Re: RE: Lift and tires!!!!!!!
I've been on vacation for a while now (I love central Oregon!), and have, for the first time in quite a while, gone more than a couple days without worrying about how I will continue to build my Jeep. Well since I would like to be able to get to work on the CJ when I get home, I started ordering things again. I think that I'll be going with RE Wrangler 4.5" lift springs and homemade shackle reversal/outboard, whatever dana 44's I come accross first, and the guy at the local 4x4 shop up here recommended Skyjacker Hydro shocks as a good on/offroad shock for an sua application. As for the motor, things had been getting pretty hectic...but now, I've decided that I can live with a stock or slightly modified 4.0L, but don't know enough about these engines and engine swaps to make a good decision. I'm thinking that a stroker with compression around 9.4 and a poor quench height would work with pump gas if I use a longer duration cam to bleed off compression at low rpm and use the older style 4.0L spark plugs. If you think this will ping in offroad driving conditions, or would have bad emissions and/or alot of carbon build up (that could raise compression), let me know. What I'm wondering is what will the sideaffects be of swapping in this torque monster, i.e. will I need to worry about axle wrap, breaking d44's, cracking the frame, getting poor gas mileage, having too much torque for the available traction...etc. Will I feel a power loss with a stock 4.0L and 35" tires even if I regear? Basically I don't want the extra torque if it will break things or have ill sideaffects, as I can live w/o the extra power even though it would be alot of fun. I know I've kinda beat this to death, so thank you to everyone who has bared with me here (I must give Snitty credit for all of his usefull info on strokers). I think I'm alot closer to having the whole thing planned out now.
