Steering in water

you'll have to forgive me, as this is my first Jeep.

But; I have a 1990 YJ and when I drive through a large puddle of water the steering seems to freeze up a little and is very hard to turn, it also losses a little breaking power. Is there anything I can do to remedy this type of activity when going through water? It Occures while in the water and after I exit the water for about 20-30 feet It has Brand new belts and tightened to spec

The likely loss of braking is due to wet rotors and drums, and the loss of steering could be the wet belt slipping over the power steering pump. Consider tightening or replacing the power steering belt to reduce the likelihood of this occurring.

I will give it a try, see what happins Thanx;)

The whole breaking thing happens all the time from my experience in any jeep or yota i've driven or rode in.

Well what do you know, I just realized today that my engine capartment was missing the Fan shroud, I went and got one from the local "J" Yard and hope it will keep some of the water off the belts..... Thanx for the help guys and gals
