Breather Extender

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Jeepy!!!

Can somebody point me towards a "How To" on extending the transmission and diff breathers? I remember somewhere on here seeing where someone had extended them up to the level of their air intake (or carb). After all the recent flooding we had, I decided this might not be a bad idea. What kind of line do you run, how do you locate it, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: SOA with no $

Simply rubber hose run up to the firewall, capped with a filter, is what I suggest

RE: 87 Comanche For Sale!!!!

What diameter hose? What kind of filter? I know pretty much where the diff breathers are, but what about the transmission breather? Where is it? (On top, duh...but where?)

RE: transmission

I can't remember what diameter the hoses are. I used transmission hose because it can withstand any oils that might get into the hose if your diff heats and overflows. As for a breather, I used to have small fuel filters on the ends. I now have my diff and transfercase breathers run into my airbox lid. If you have a standard transmission, your trans breather is inside it. There is one for the transfercase located just on top of it. It should already have a small breather hose on it which you can tap into and extend.

RE: Really need some help!

I can't recall the exact size, but take one off and take it into an Auto-parts store and get some the same size, but whatever lengtt you need.

I would also suggest either transmission fluid lines or fuel lines (both rubber).

On my truck, I ran all the lines (front/rear ends, transmission, t-case) into my glovebox, until I can make a new little "home" for them somewhere in the cab, up high out of harms way.

Oh, and don't forget fuel tank vents if you have them. Mine run up under the hood, near the fire-wall where they don't get too wet.

Wrangles-- May I make a suggestion? Run your vents up between the bed and the cab. The central location lets you dunk either end of the truck without worries, and they are high and dry. Inside the bed is nice too if you don't mind cutting holes.

Don't you get any funky fumes inside the cab?

Re: RE: 1987 XJ Pioneer Ed for sale

haha, nope, no fumes. Of course, it's always SOOOO hot in my truck, I have to leave the windows down (no a/c and big engines let off a lot of heat!!).

I would put them in the bed, but that's been under water and usually is completely soaked if I'm running in the mud. Actually, I might build a little box for them up high in the bed.....

The only reason they're in the glovebox is because it usually doesn't get wet in there.

And Sparky, you don't need to add onto the existing vent lines. Throw them away and replace them completely.

RE: 1994 Jeep 350 swap

You can cap a larger tube and slip it over your existing vent tube. Leave it open down low around the existing tube and water won't get over that opening.
