Cj7 axle swap

I found a power brake master cylinder and booster at my local junkyard. It's coming off of a YJ. I was wondering if I could install the front axle with the disk brakes onto my cj. I currently have drums up front. If it's possible, what all should I take from the yj? Thanks

The YJ has a driver drop axle and your CJ has a passenger drop so it wouldn't work. Also different knuckles and shafts. IIRC you can swap the knuckle out from an newer CJ to get disc, some Fords will work as well and have the same bolt pattern.

probably a dumb question, but do you have the closed knuckle drum brakes?? (LOL, I don't even know if they made open knuckle drums) I thought disks were standard starting in 76? anyway, if you have open knuckle I think you could get the spindle, calipers, caliper mounts, rotors, disks, off of a late 70,s cj and swap them onto yours. The yj and cj have the same front 30 axle, the yj used a larger ujoint and as stated above the dif is on the wrong side.

After doing some more reading, I realized that the yj setup wouldn't really be an upgrade even if it was compatible. Thanks for the replies. I do have front drums. There is no telling what the PO did to this thing. I saved it from the scrap heap. It has some interesting parts. Xjmarc I am just up the road from you. I live in cleveland.

I've got a disk setup on my parts jeep. I've thought about selling the whole Jeep though.

Good to know. I've got a bunch of guys I ride with up there in Bradley Co. If you wheel it let me know and I'll get with you on some of our rides.

the booster and master from teh YJ will work on the CJ, as for the front axle, all you need is stock cj with disc brakes, swap everythign over.

Will I need a bracket to mount the booster? If so does anyone have plans for it? Thanks

the YJ and CJ power booster mounting brackets are pretty close to being the same. I think you have to hog out the bottom two holes, but it has been a while since I've done it.
