clutch pedal, gear problems

OK, I had this problem 2 months ago and replaced my master and slave cylinders, so it is a pretty new clutch, maybe 1000 miles on it. I don't drive it hard.

All of the sudden my clutch pedal has lost a ton of pressure...feels very soft when i depress it, and dosent come back as fast, and then if the pressure feels low the gears are very hard to get in, and when they go in its almost like they are being slammed into gear.

What could be the problem???

Sounds like air has gotten into the clutch slave. Make sure the bleeded valve is closed tight if it has one, and make sure it's fluid is topped off. You may have to pump the snot out of it to get the air out, but it should come out. Unless it's shot already.

SYE question

after i replaced my clutch, it did the same thing. try gravity bleeding it, loosen the bleeding nipple on slave cylinder and keep topping up the reservoir until the fluid coming out runs clear, then tighten the nipple again. if that doesnt work, chances are you need a new master cylinder, as i did.
after i put in the new master cylinder and gravity bleed it, it worked great.

I'm havin the same problem right now too. I replaced everything but the master cylinder in july. Recently my clutch doesn't have as much pressure but it still has enough. When it's cold I can't get it into 2nd sometimes it just grinds and won't let me. after it warms up a little there's still some resistance but it goes in. Bleeding it didn't help. so do I need a new master cylinder??

how long ago did you put it on? did it work when you first put it on, and now it doesnt. or did you even put it on yet.

just replaced slave and master cylinder 1000 miles ago. So I hope its not that, I really dont want to spend 500 bucks getting that replaced again.

try gravity bleeding it like i mentioned above, and if that doesnt work you probably do need a new master cylinder. i got a new clutch put in also, including slave cylinder, and i tried bleeding it every which way and nothing worked. so i got a new master and gravity bleed it and never had a problem since. i was told gravity bleeding is the best way to do a clutch on jeep.

well it looks like my clutch is now about to go, I barely got to work today, have to pump my clutch pedal 4-5 times before it has enough pressure to get into gear, I really don't want to put another clutch in but I may have to. Would gravity bleeding it possibly fix it if its this far gone???

I don't understand, so you DID replace the clutch also, or just the slave and slave master cylinder?

slave and master clyinder only. sorry for the confusion, but that fixed the problem last time so I am assuming that they are at the root of the problem, or is something causing them to go?

if it does build up pressure when you pump the clutch, and go into gear then you probably just have air in the line.( thats if the master and slave are new.) try gravity bleeding it, thats the only way that worked for me. if when you have it in gear and the clutch doesnt slip or anything, chances are your cluch disk is still good.(for now)

im thinkin the clutch disk should be ok, I am pretty sure that wasn't replaced. Last time this happened they replaced the master and slave cylinder and that fixed it.

how much should I expect to pay for someone to gravity bleed the clutch? Is it a simple procedure? And if that dosent work am I stuck replacing the master and slave cylinders again or should I get something else replaced?

bleed it yourself, its simple. take the top off your clutch master, top it off with fluid(leave top off). get under the jeep and loosen the bleeder nipple alittle bit until the fluid is running slowly. then get under your hood again and keep on topping up your master with dot 3 brake fluid. just to make sure all the air is out top it up 4-5 times never letting it get down past half. fill it up, then get under the jeep a tighten up the bleeder nipple.(do not over tighten, just snug it up)
top up the master cylinder again and put the cap on. test drive. hope this helps

if you must take it in to the shop, and it just needs to be bleed its a 10 min job. but im sure the shop will find somthing else to make it an hour.

so it ended up being the master cylinder...apparently they didnt replace that....oh well works now that's all that matters...we'll see for how long before something else goes

i live up in Canada where it gets pretty cold and i had the same problem shifting into second gear. it was hard to shift when cold but easy to shift once it warmed up. all i did was change the transmission fuild to a synthetic and the problem was gone. this may or may not be the case with your transmission.
