Electric fan question

I've been wanting to do an electric fan conversion but just never really got around to it. I've heard stories of people pulling their belt driven fan into the radiator when submerged underwater. Just wondering if submerging an electric fan will damage it.

RE: Re: RE: Back to work!

Many put a toggle switch on the dash to turn it off for water crossings.

RE: Recovery Points

Otherwise, use waterproof connectors for the wiring. I hadn't ever considered pulling a fan through the radiator in water, although I had heard of people not wanting a belt drive fan for water crossings but didn't know why until now....learn something new here everyday!

My brother once pulled a flex fan through his radiator in his '71 Malibu.

I was planning on putting a toggle switch on the electric fan to shut it off during water crossings. I'd just like to know if water will damage the electric motor for the fan when it gets wet.

It should survive fine. Consider that it gets soaked when you drive in rain. And everyone that has a massive radiator failure soaks the fan. It's just a wire winding and some magnets. The bearings are sealed. More important to keep the connecters and relays dry.

RE: Re: RE: will this transmission work ?

So long as it is not running while submerged it should be fine. It may even make it without the kill switch but I wouldn't risk it considering how simple it is to install.
