That's a good technique.
I have a Hi-lift, and had it fall on me in my driveway. Didn't hit me hard enough to do any damage, but it was hard enough to make me not forget that lesson. I don't even take it with me on the trail any more - I've begun bringing a good size bottle jack with me instead.

I've never owned a farm jack but I keep a bottle jack and a couple of wood blocks in my 4x4 truck.
