Hurricane Charlie

Well I figured that I would make a post about the hurricane. I live here in central Florida midway between Orlando and Daytona. By the time the storm got here it still had winds of around 80 to 100 mph. I have spent the last 2 days with my chainsaw and jeep helping to clear downed trees in the comunity. I enjoy helping outhers in need But i think it is to bad that it takes a disaster like this to bring out the best in people. This would be a great world if everyone helped out like this all the time. I wish I could figure out how to post pics so that I could show you all some of the damage caused by the storm. I just wish that I had my winch cause I sure could have used it these past few days.

It's great that you are helping others out.

Here in Naples, all we got was a bunch of broken branches and a little water. This is the first chance I've had to post because I have been in Charlotte County (Punta Gorda) since 6 AM Sat - 8 PM Mon assisting with search and rescue operations. After I take my final exam Wed night, I'm heading back up to assist more in any way they can use me. My rig came in handy a few times by clearing trees and pieces of mobile homes so other crews could get through.

Once I got there and saw the devistation Charley caused, I found myself to be VERY lucky that all I had was a few broken branches and plan on doing anything possible to help the people that lost everything they had.

P.S. For those of you that feel compeled to, you can make donations to help the victims of Charley at www.redcross.org.

I guess I'm sick in the head or something, but I enjoy the hurricanes. I feel extra bad for the people that fall victim to them, I guess because I feel guilty for actually sort of looking forward to them. We had a few people get killed in a related tornado down the road from me, but the actual hurricane was kind of flat. I sat on the front porch with a cool one and watched it pass. The guy that just moved in down the road didn't secure his grandsons kiddie pool very well so I had to run out and catch it as it came flying by, but other than that it was kind of uneventful here.

Up here in the North east, it was nothing more than a drixxle! I hope everyones family and friends are alright!

I know the first thing I did was call all my family down there!

i feel bad saying this, but this is the first ive even heard of hurricane charlie.. good ole iowa, we're just up here doing our own thing i guess

I've got family in Anna Maria and all throughout central florida and they got hit pretty hard. I live in NC so we caught the tail end of it but it still was no afternoon shower. It poured here but thats about it, and I was the only jeeper in town to be out with my doors and windows off in a swim suit drivin around. Boy you should have seen some of the looks i was gettin from people at stop lights.

Junkpile....your not sick, I am sort of a weather junky myself. I like to follow the hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and mudslides. Its interesting

My parents live in Eastern Orlando. They only lost a few trees. The neighbor behind the lost part of his roof. They were also lucky enough to have underground power lines so they only lost power for a few hours.

Don't feel bad. They don't even name those tornadoes (just as destructive as hurricanes, only a much smaller swath) so most of us don't hear about those woes, either.
