I NEED A DANA 44

I am looking into finding a cheap DAna 44 rear end with the same or close width as my YJ. Also, I need the same bolt pattern 5x4.5. Where can I find one? At least what vehicle can I find it on?

I decided to go back to my original plan and SOA the YJ when the motor goes in and I don't want to buy SOA stuff for an axle that may snap the first day I use it.

'87 to '91 XJ's and MJ's, or years there close.

There are some other good D44 choices but you'd have to get custom shafts or wheel adapters to get the lug pattern back to stock.
Isuzu Rodeo D44 (disc brakes, 6lug)
Jeep SJ D44 (more rare than the HDAMC20, 6lug).

I'll be using the 'zu D44 since the 6lug will match my Waggy front, and 4wheel discs ;)

The Scout II rear is 2" narrower and has the 5x5.5" lug pattern. The simplest answer would be to use the narrowest conversion type wheel spacers you can find and kill tow birds with one stone. You could also have the axle flanges and brake drums redrilled to make it match the front or use a front hub conversion to make the factory front match the Scout rear.

I think the 9" from a first gen Bronco is about the same width but it will also have the 5x5.5" pattern. Don't forget the 8.8" Ford either. It's not my favorite axle in the world, but it is fairly strong and the width and bolt pattern are good. Get one with disc brakes and the C-clips are alot less of a worry.

It is something about the sound of putting anything Isuzu under my Jeep that scares me away.

But its not really an isuzu part. Its a dana.

if you find an XJ with a dana44 it's probably still running strong, and the people that have them know what they have. I don't know about LA, but bama doesn't have to many XJ's like that to choose from. Check for a wagonner, and I think, not sure, the commanche might have had them in the rear.
