RE: Daytona 500!

Junkpile, or anyone who knows anything about 9" rearends. I no that there are some crappy 9 inchers with low spline counts, and some with nice ones. What were the highest spline counts available, and the lowest. And I've heard that they have more ground clearance than a D60, is that true? I have a 9" in my basement, and haven't pulled the axles out yet, and I was just wondering what the spectrum of splines were. And I know that it's a different bolt pattern than the D30 up front, but that'll be the next to go. My Jeep is about to grow up

RE: Fuel injection conversions for AMC

most of them came with 28 or 31 splines. a common upgrade for them is to go to 35 splines and it is possible to go to 40 splines with the big bearing units. the 40 spline set up is still a little mysterious to me, im working on building a 9 inch rear so this thread should be good for both of us

I have very little experience with the Ford 9". I think there are like 3 different housings, 3 different bearing sizes, two spline counts, different center sections.......To be honest, I got overwhelmed one time while searching for one to swap into a Camaro and lost interest. In factory form, there are lots of more logical choices for a SWB Jeep. With some aftermarket($) parts though, it's hard to beat. Alot of the mud racers are running them. It's kind of funny---ALL of the GM racers have big heavy 14 bolt rears, but alot of the Fords are still sporting that little 9"......and they hold together fairly well.

A Tad Off Topic

Well, I have another question. If I buy higher spline count axles for it, would they work? I'm pretty intent on putting this under my Jeep, b/c I have it, it was free, and I've heard they can be built to be one tough little bugar.
