Aside from the added lift, what real advantages do 35" tires have over 33" tires?? I am planning on buying 33" but have the room and flex for 35". what will running a 33" tire make me lose???

1" of belly height?

In reality, you need to check the actual tire sizes to see what you gain. You'll also break easier with 35's. You get a better approach with bigger tires usually, better break over angle, and higher belly height.

1" difference in belly height, given the two tires are exactly 2" different in height.

A lot of it should depend on what axle gearing you have, not only will the taller tires take a lower gear, but they're a lot heavier than the 33" tires. They'll rob more power to get 'em moving.

I agree with Bounty, but there are a few things you also need to consider.
With bigger heavier tires you will loose breaking distance and greater wear and tear on the brakes, rotors and axle component's. Not to mention the extra 20-30$ cost of the tires themselves compared to 33's. There is also the cost of lugging around a 35" spare, I do believe that 33's are the largest tire the factory spare mount location can handle (with a cheap extender bracket).

Most 33's are closer to 35" inch tires than you might realize. Toyo's for example, there 33's are only about an inch shorter than my Goodyear 35" tires. Not sure if my 35's are at true 109.9 inch in circumference (35 inches X 3.14 [pi]).

As for me I will be dropping down to 33's this year when I put on new shoes.
Even with gear's in both the transmission and axles the cost of gas, required to turn these massive tires doesn't seem to be going down.
And as for Moab rock crawling goes...I seen more XJ's with 33's on the same trails that I thought bigger tires was a requirement.

thanx for all the info guys! I think i will go with a 33 for the cost factor. being cheaper per tire and also saving on gas and axles will be worth it.

33's will still eat gas versus your stock tires, I have Firestone AT Destinations and they're suppose to be 33's but I measured them the other day and realized there more like a 32 and my gas mileage still surcks. Plus, to me, if you don't have the right amount of lift to make the larger tires look good, then stay with smaller to have some sort of neutrality.

Go 33"s! ,less wieght,less stress,less cost,less worry.

go 33... ive been running them for over 4 yrs (mounted 8/13/04...same day i got married makes it easy to remember...) and had no problems... and to throw a brand out there- my BFG M/T's still have way over 3/4 tread left - cant wear them out! and they perform great on the sand/rock trails i run here in the desert! just my $.02 - hope it helps!
