Shaking Transmission

My transmission shakes, in turn shakes my transfer case, when accelerating from a stopped position. It only happens for the first 5-10 feet, then it's fine. It's an automatic transmission, and I know most of y'all run manual's, but can anyone help me with this? Do you think I might need new transmission mounts? Thanks.

I can see the shift lever and hear my manual transmission shaking for the first 10 or so feet when I really gun it from a dead stop. I've just been so buisy with other problems that i havn't gotten around to doing anything about it. Now that you mention it, the transmission (and possibly engine) mounts do seem like likely culprits. Hopefully we can get someone to confirm this, though.

RE: I have a Hole in the Seat of my Work Van

Mine used to do something similar. The transmission mount was bad.

RE: ford rims on jeep

I would post my own thread to ask questions usually, but since it might pertain to MerkL's question, are polyurethane mounts worth the extra bucks?

Hi-Ya MerkL,

You might check the motor-mounts too.

When bolted together all that stuff (engine, transmission, transfer case) is one big package supported on a tripod of mounts.

You might also want to check the anti-torque arm off the transmission. (That is, if an auto-trans 94 YJ has a anti-torque arm.)

Gadget

PS: When the Bubbacon had a broken motor-mount, I could look between the back edge of the opened hood and the tub and watch the engine roll way over and sort of oscillate while slipping the clutch away from a dead stop.

That engine roll and oscillation made the Bubba shake, rattle and roll like a golden retriever coming out of a pond.

Yes, if something is shaking around alot......the first place to look for a problem is the mounts that hold that something in place.

GaryMB, yes poly mounts are worth every penny

Thanks guys for the responses. I'll check them this weekend, and hopefully have this problem solved.

Jeep top

every jeep i've owned has eaten stock motor mounts like crazy - thank god they're captive! - i know when i've lost one (usually the drivers side) when the shifter starts the side/side shimmy real bad! going poly next time around (although i've gotten REAL fast at swapping them out!)
