What is the differance in these two ring and pinions? D44 4.88 R&P and D44 4.88 REV R&P. I know that they are standard and reverse cut but what does that mean?

there was a good post on here a while back - pics and everything. Have you tried a search?

RE: cheap hedder

I believe that it means the teeth on the ring and pinion gears are slanted the opposite way than standard. I heard it is a stronger setup. That's about all I know.

Yeah, I started a thread that asked this, and there were a few good responses. I have already forgotten what the difference was, but the reverse cut is a stronger setup. But there were drawbacks to it though and I don't remember what they were. I tried to search for that post but I couldn't find it, sorry.

Re: RE: biggest tires I could run

Okay, I'll try and explain it. If it doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try again.

Look at the way your rear-end's ring gear spins. That setup is the strongest way to do it (for a standard pinion rear end).

Now, if the front ring gear was to spin the same way, it would cause the front tires to spin the opposite way as the rear tires. So, they simply made it so it would rotate opposite to the rear ring gear, causing both the front and rear tires to spin the same way. This is a standard cut ring/pinion gear....which is what most vehicles have.

By reversing the "rotation" of it (not really the rotation, but they simply cut the teath so they are "pointing" the opposite direction) , it causes it to be as strong as the rear end (if they were the same size axles, gears, etc....obviously).

That make sense?
