strange behavior during low speed turns

hey all, my girlfriend's 98 Sahara has been acting weird during low speed maneuvers when the thing has been run for a while. It's seems to happen especially after highway driving. But during low speed turns, like pulling into a parking space, it makes this weird noise and I think I've noticed the rear tires squealing a bit. It seems like it doesn't want to turn and the noise kind of sounds almost like rubber rubbing on steel or like a really whirred whirring noise. It's hard to say but there's no visible damage to any of the tires of anything. I have my thoughts about what it could be but thought I'd see what the collective thinks of it.

I will take a "pop shot" here and duck after-wards when everyone poke a few holes in my opinion :D
I would first do a basic "under-carriage" inspection of the drive train. Visually inspect the rear drive line for bad u-joints. (this means getting your hands dirty by doing a bit of ("tug & pull" here).
if no problem shows then its time to lift your rear end and slide the transfer into neutral. Spinning the rear tires will tell you if you have a problem inside.
Oh also pull on each tire to see if your axle bearings are worn. If nothing here rears its ugly head then I would recommend that you remove the rear differential cover and visually inspect the ring and pinion gears, this is also a good time to see what type of diff you have. If my memory serves me right you have a Dana 44 with a true -track type of locker. If you do there is a possibility that what you were hearing was the small clutch type plates locking your rear end as you turn ( which there suppose to ).
When you button it back up don't forget to add the limited slip additive to help your track lock if you have one.
