Sway Bars?

I am in the middle of installing my 4" lift on my 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ and have had a terriable time getting the top of the sway bars off at the top bar. I checked with a few people and have been told that I realy do not need the Sway Bars installed, they said to just take them out.... What does everyone think?

If you think I should keep them on, does anyone have any ideas on how to get the darn thing off... What we are talking about here is the top bolt on the Sway Bar. There is a Nut on the inside of the bolt but on the outside it looks like a nail head with a little rise in the middle. I have removed the nut on the inside and thought it would just slide out, but NO, it wont even turn. I WD4'ed it a couple of times last week but still nothing.........I used an impact gun to get the nut off on the back side,PLLLLLEEEEAAASSEEE HHEEEELLLPPP!!

for the Front you need a Gear Fork you can rent on at a local AutoZone. They are Knuckled on a TJ do your's have the rubber boot at the top?

Cut 'em off, you really don't need a swaybar unless your springs are way soft.

Just cut the endlinks. If you feel the jeep is too unstable, you'll still have the swaybar to install with longer endlinks.

When I took those out on mine when I still ran a sway bar, it took some heating and a big freakin hammer. Soak it with PB Blaster for a couple days, and heat the material around the bolt so that it expands and frees up the bolt.

Put a big pair of channel locks on the flat end and a socket on the other and bust 'em loose.

Personally, I don't like the way a YJ handles on the road without a swaybar. Sure it may seem fine for most situations but if it's a daily driver or if you plan to run the highways you should keep the swaybar. A decent set of disconnects are well worth the PITA of getting the original bolts unstuck.

Well Hell, Project is complete, and I have removed all existance of the Sway Bar (Kept the part just in case), Funny thing is, I decided to take them just cause I was tired of trying to remove the bolts. What do you know, the damn bolts slid right out once diconnected. Oh Well... I will post pics Sometime tomarrow, Thanx for the help.... By the way, the ride is great, can't tell the Sway Bars are gone...8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

here are the recent pics of the kit I put on last week:purple: :purple:
