I own a 02 Wrangler, 5 speed, 4.0 and noticed that when the clutch is depressed throwout bearing quiet and when released i hear this rattling noise... is that normal?

nope... but im not sure that is a throwout bearing... but dont take my advice on transmissions.... my jeep hasnt worked in 8 months b/c of a transmission prob

sounds like a throwout problem to me.... when you press it, you are securing it to the clutch, giving it stability and holding it in place... when you release it, you back it away, and if the internals of the bearing are bad, then it will drop and rattle on the input shaft..... if you've ever changed a clutch, well... be prepared to do it again... if you don't think you can do it... save some money... it is just a matter of time before it falls apart completely or wears away on the shaft... though.... i HAVE seen some bad throwouts go for over 3 years, rattling the whole time before failing

I've seen a lot of complaints about noisy trannies in late model Wranglers, and every jeeper complaining says that the stealership tells them it's normal. For what it's worth.

I just saw an ax-5 on ebay for $300 (end in 9 hours). Check it out.-al

if anyone here has the money... if it is an operable transmission... it is a good investment... even to sell it off for 500 when someone needs it... and it is guaranteed that you can sell an ax5 on this site
