I am getting a popping(not pooping) noise in all ranges except in 2WD. Now I can't have any fun. :-( I have tried manually shifting the transfer case(under the Jeep with channellocks) but no joy. Anyone have any similar problems in the past? Trail ride tomorrow and I don't want to be left out. Any comments appreciated.[addsig]

Does it pull in 4 wheel??? if so..it may not be the t/case...a bad u-joint on the front driveshaft can raise cain too...if it pulls in 4 x 4 and the noise quits when you kick the transmission in neutral while you are moving...usually a bad u-joint...if you can grab the drive shaft with your hands while in neutral and shake it back and forth...too loose..on my XJ when it started popping under a load...the noise when i shook the driveshaft was unmistakebly the same noise...Advanced Drivetrain hooked me up with a new double cardin shaft and all is right with the world...[addsig]

Fluids are in the norm. It will pull in all ranges but I haven't tried putting it in neutral and coasting yet, something to do tonight, I guess. I have a feeling I will not be able to re-create the popping noise that I hear, I can also feel it when it pops. Were you able to feel yours(inside the Jeep) when it popped MudDawg?[addsig]

Sounds like the TC chain may be stretched, slipping on the shafts when in 4wd. It's usually quite loud and disturbing :-O [addsig]

No i couldn't feel anything...but i could sure hear it....Bounty Hunter has a valid point...i would drain the t/fer case and look for metal particles...you may be able to visually check the chain thru the fill plug....[addsig]

its really not tough to take apart, just have to break the seal and make sure you do'nt damage the pump in there... otherwise, if you do, make sure you use a liquid gasket to put it back together... a solid gasket will leak[addsig]

Well, it looks like it is the chain. Let's see if I can get the warranty company to cut a check for this one. "No I don't take it off road, It's just for looks." :-D It worked for the A/C system.[addsig]
