When did you 1st catch "Jeep fever"?

I was 8 yrs old and visiting family here in MD. My older cousin Jimmy took my for a ride in his CJ. I remember thinking I was going to die as we went straight up this huge hill. Ya just don't ever forget some things :)

I saw the same look on my son's face about two weeks ago. He's 7 and can tell you if a Jeep is a cj, yj, or tj. Poor kid, what have I done?!?!?! :roll:
 
I remember playing with Hotwheels Jeeps as a kid and just always thinking they were cool. And there was Daisy Duke too. :twisted: I'd see them on the road and just thought they were the coolest looking vehicles. So different than anything else, with the removeable top and doors. My buddy had a Samuri in high school and that was fun, but we all knew he had Jeep envy and that fueled mine. I wanted one, but couldn't afford it. Graduated college, went to buy a car and wanted a Wrangler. I let the folks talk me out of getting one though... not practical they said. unsafe. So I got an XJ, and then 3 years later when I had saved some money I bought an old beater CJ7 as a fun car and showed up and mom and dad's house with it. How about this for safe? My mom thinks I am stupid for having it but my dad knows its cool. I have had it for a year and have such an irrational love for it. I haven't had the opportunity to take it off road more than once due to a few problems with it, but just cruising around in the summertime is good for me until I fix it up. I have learned so much about how to fix this and that and you really have a sense of accomplishment when you do those fix-it/upgrade projects yourself and it works.

Most of you guys have wanted Jeeps since child hood...I wish I could say the same.

My story is this. When I was 15 or so, I saw a Jeep up close. I had never driven one or even been in one, until I signed for mine. It was the end of this summer (July), and I got into a accident (I drove a Toyota Paseo), and I needed a new car. I thought Jeeps were cool, and you can take the doors off. So I found on I liked, and bought it. That was the first time I had ever driven or rode in a Jeep.

I got it on a Wednesday, and took it off road on that Friday, I have been hooked eva sence.

Now, almost 3 months later, we are looking into a 76 CJ7 to play around with.
 
I always thought that Jeeps looked like a fun vehicle. My uncle bought one a number of years ago and he had fixed it up quite a bit. I needed to sell my newer truck to get rid of the payment so my wife could go to nursing school. I decided that I still wanted a 4WD vehicle and why not have the ultimate 4WD vehicle! I have taken it off road and it will go places my truck would never have went.
 
My fever started back in the days of the Dukes of Hazard show. I started to like them very much as I got older. Then it became time to start driving at 16 and wanted a Jeep badly. Well I ended up getting a beater that I drove for the next 5 years of my life. I had lots of friends with various trucks and we used to go offroading alot since we went backpacking in secluded areas so often. I used to give them crap about their trucks when they couldn't overcome certain obstacles. I use to tell them if they had a Jeep they would be able to do what they were trying to do. They usually didn't like that to much since I had a car at the time. Well just about 2 months ago I finally purchased my own Jeep. The fever had been eating at me for what felt like an eternity. After having the Jeep for about 2 weeks we already had a plan to go offroading in Kentucky. And I got to show all my friends what a Jeep was capable of. To say the least they all were impressed!!!! "It's a Jeep thing....and I think they finally understood!!!" :lol: Now a few of them want to buy one!

I caught "Jeep Fever" from my son. He once owned an 82 or 83 CJ-7 with fiberglass body, pro-built and swapped AMC 360, yada, yada.

Since I spent so much helping him by working on his Jeep, I thought it would be fun to get a Jeep of my own.

Well...two Jeep CJ-7s later, here I am.

So, I guess "Jeep Fever" is like insanity...you get it from your kids.

I just wrote a long a$$ post but it got deleted here's the summary:

Always wanted a "Jeep jeep" (removeable top) for as long as i can remeber but I always drove a 4x4 vehicle since i was 16.

Here's the list; The YJ is my Favorite and will never sell it!!!!

1. 1984 Ford f-150 (15-16) small lift big tires chrome wheels
2. 1985 GMC Jimmy (16) Dad's but we always switched on/off
3. 1991 Jeep XJ Limited (16-20) oversized tires no lift minor off street use
4. 1993 Ford Bronco (20-22) Gas Guzzler
5. 1997 Audi A4 (22- present) too nice to take off-road or drive in snow but it is AWD
6. 1988 YJ (22-present) ATTACK OF JEEP FEVER
 

I have always been fasinated by jeeps but was never really interested in there small size. My first vehicle was a 77 blazer, original owner that I still have, 400 sb three speed with granny 8 inches of lift ans 37" tires. I loved taking it off road but was limited to trails that would allow me to pass. That and the gas was killer (I communted 30 mile each way to college) so I bough my first jeep back in 97 and been hooked ever since. Hell havn't drove the blazer since 99. (in storage)
 
I can't remember a time that I didn't want a Jeep but it has taken me 37 years to get here. In my younger days I thought maybe one day when I get older, I'll be able to get one. My parents thought they were too dangerous. I was at least able to get a 4wd, an 81 Bronco. I guess I got the off road bug then but still always thought a Jeep would be fun. When I sat in a friends CJ, I realized my dream may never come true as I'm 6'6'' and had no leg room. Knees in the dash. But my desires for an open air vehicle and/or a Jeep never subsided. In the meantime, I had 2 cars with sunroofs and two with t-tops. Love the air in the hair.

Well, life goes on and 15-20 years later I'm married with a kid and have a sweet 71 Olds 442 to play with on the weekends. One day the three of us went to some crafts fair that the women love so much but also some of the car dealers had some of the new models on display and I thought I'd check out the new Jeeps whilst the wife shopped. Guess what! I had plenty of leg room. Now to convince the wife. I had mentioned to her in the past my love of Jeeps and I mention to her about how nice the new models are and....what does she say? If I sell the 442 and my daily driver we can get one. WoooHooo. Deal Done.
 
I had always wanted a Jeep but was told they were impractical for a daily driver and I would trade it in on another vehicle after I got tired of it. Drove a friend of mine's 1990 YJ and loved it. Then, I went to Durango, Colorado on a family vacation and while everyone was touring the town of Ouray, my younger brother and I rented a TJ for half a day. They just hand you a map and say "go hit the trails, be back by 5". We had a blast! While all my cousins were shopping in every little store, my brother and I were up in the mountains having snowball fights in the middle of July. Bought my TJ one year later and still love every minute of it. I don't care what anybody says about it not being a daily driver. It just takes a special kind of person.

as best I can remember I was smimming down a long tube in a race against a bunch of others. I was lagging behind and I sped up and banged head first into a giant rocklike structure. I jeeped my way through the rocky terrain and made it through eggtrail. This was back in mid 1982 and I am only 20 so you do the math. lol
 
My mom always told me when i was younger that there was no way in hell i could ever get a jeep.( her brother was in a chase in one when he was 18 and crashed, was ejected and died) so when i bought my first car (1990 for escort) i used to think damn theres got to be something better than this and read the clasifides everyday at work and watch all the jeeps go by with no top or doors. WOW thats bad i want one. So I did . mom eventually forgave me and even went wheelin on the beach with me.

Hmmm. For me, shortly after I finished college. A year before I graduated I bought a new Honda Accord with all the whistles and bells and I thought I'd be happy with it for eternity. Eternity turned out to be just a couple of years. Barely a year after I bought the Honda I was already stalking Jeeps and rented a YJ in Denver for a whole week.

Next thing you know, I found that Jeep was going to the TJ's but I didn't like the look as much as the YJ's so I was going to wait until spring of 96, just before they shut down YJ assembly, to place my order. To my surprise, the assembly line was shut down in fall of 95 instead. So in November 95, I worked with a dealer to do a multi-state search (from washington state to the midwest to california) for a new Green YJ with all the features I wanted...the only one we found happened to be at a dealership only 60 miles away. A short time later it was in the garage beside my Honda. Now the Honda, which I still have fond memories of as the first car I can truly say was mine is gone but my 95 YJ is still there. :)
 

I obtained my first itch when I was younger and my favorite person in the world was no other than MacGyver. I loved that show. He drove an older Jeep, CJ , I believe. It always took a beating. I wanted to be cool like him and drive a Jeep.

Fast-forward a few years. Pops buys an old postal Jeep and I loved it, we called it the booger. He sells it for something else.

Fast-forward, I buy an YJ, yeah I have a Jeep now, right? Wrong. It gets stolen and most likely ends up in_______? <----(insert South American county here). Get insurance money, buy a new truck, keep it a year, hate it(not a Jeep), and trade it for a TJ, now I am one with the Universe.
 
Wanted: TJ half doors

Caught Jeep Fever at the tender age of 5 when I watched my dad roll the company CJ. Then called 10 Migrant workers to roll it back to it's feet then drove off with the top down.
 

when i was younger i always thought they seemed cool. you could take the top off (not just down. that would be cool getting cought in the rain), the doors come off (what other car does that), and they looked like they could go anywhere.

well quite a few years later (my only vehicle being a motorcycle) i was cruzing around in SC with a freind with no door or top. what a blast. cruzing around with my leg out the door. what a blast. i decided that when i get my next car it's going to be a jeep.

unfortunately my next car wasn't a jeep, but it was fun none the less (not the same thou). although several months after driving around in an eagle tallon that i needed to climb thru the window due to sliding sideways into a town snowplow ( a site watching a 6'2 guy climbing thru a window of a car that small), i was ready for a new vehicle.

after months of studying and research i was ready to get a loan for a jeep and modifications. well i got the money for the jeep. it took another accident to get the money for mods.

i will have this jeep for ever. nothing will ever get me to give it up.
 
I learned to drive in my Dad's 79 CJ-5 on our deer lease here in Texas. I was instantly hooked!! That was 22 years ago and I am now on my third Jeep,but far from my last!! My 10 year old son can't wait to do the same as his old Dad!
 
Well my mom gave me her 93 XJ 4.0 HO, i loved it but it was 2WD, i decided to take it offroading and instantly fell in love. it was awesome, i'm sure you all know how i feel, but man it was awesome. my friend has a 00 TJ and he has taught me SO much, i look up to him in so many ways, hes a bad ass. So i got my 99 TJ 4.0...and voila!
