winch advice

I've had a superwinch lp8500 for a few months now sent it back for repairs last month- they replaced the motor, took care of me, and I got it back working. Now its been less than a month since I got it back and its already broken... again. I've checked the connections and wiring so its nothing dumb on my part. Has anyone had similar problems? Anyone have an opinion on what I should do?- it costs $80.00 to send out to get fixed, kinda hard to shell out another 80 just a month later with minimal use.

What was the warranty on the repairs prior?, i would think that they would have given you a 90 day warranty at least.

make them pay the shiping... i worked in repair for years if you talk to the right person thay will pay the shiping both ways...And if you only had it a few mounths it should be under warranty..

what exactly is happening to your winich for it not to work? can u hear it clicking or anything at all? i had the exact same which for over a year now and i didnt use it that much.. one day i was pulling up my boat and i tried my winch and i was looking at my volts gauge in the dash and it was drawing down to 0 and teh winch not workign just a click from the solinod. so i got a hammer and start tapping the winch and it started to work and free up. i took the motor off and the amature and stator was all corrroded and rusty so i cleaned it all up and havent had any trouble since.. it is a very easy job. very common with these winches i was told by a guy in canadian tire. hope this helps

what is happening? - nothing the first time it broke I got the click when i toggled the switch the first couple times then nothing, which is what happens now. The day before it failed I was pulling my buddy out and it did start slipping and was sketchy- some toggles it would work others it wouldn't.

It is still under warranty I just wanted to get some input before I paid to ship it out again.

It seems like basic connections inside the housing but when I looked they were good-did tighten things up a little- but I don't want to mess with it too much and void the warranty.

If I cant get free shipping from superwinch after a couple calls Ill start messing with it some more or send it to the motor shop.

Thanks for the input so far.

i dunno what to tell u about the warranty. but it sounds like the same thing that happened to my winch after i cleaned it up it worked fine and u dont need to be a machanic to take it apart haha. the worst fault i see in the warrany is that you mite have to go acouple of weeks with out a winch haha

Have you verified the connections with a volt meter to the winch terminals before and after the solenoids?, i would start there and see if there is a bad connection on one of the solenoids. I had that happen on my Warn 8000Lb. After visually checking and physically wiggling the cables, they were good and tight but one of the solenoid crossover cable had a corrosion inbetween the cable and terminal which gave it a clicking then nothing. Cleaned the terminal and cable and walla! it's working again.

Superwinch is the bee's knee's IMHO. although, I would have opted for the EPI series, far better than the lp.

X2; I also heard their customer service is pretty good (not that I have needed it so far), so ask them to pay for the shipping and see what happens... Worst they can say is "no" and you end up right where you are now!

I've been to the Superwinch factory in CT, it's very cool.
RubiconRich on this board was with me the last time I was there about 2 years ago.
IIRC the lp series winch is the budget minded import winch, basically a re-badge korean winch that they partially assembled in the US, the EPI series is still machined, manufactuered and assembled here in New England. the only parts that are subbed out are selenoid cable and motor manufacturing, but are done by american companies to superwinches specification.

Bonus is I've wheeled with the Superwinch Plant manager, sales guy, rep what ever he is a couple time, super cool dude, get a free superwinch hat everytime I see him.

HAHAHA fixed it! something as dumb as the remote- I took it apart and found one wire torn from its splice. Fixed it up and its working fine.

Little hint to everyone that I learned too- If you ever forget/break your remote the winch can be operated by using needle nose pliers and touching two of the female plugs.
