A Couple of questions....

I would like to get a set of D-Rings to replace those rubber blocks on the front bumper of my TJ. First, Do they make a Bracket for the D-Rings to mount in that location and is it tied to the frame??? Or is it just mounted in the thin bumper? If that's the case. Nevermind my post. LOL!!! Thanks!

I had some brackets made for my front bumper. I used angle iron bolted to the frame on either side to tie the brackets into the frame, and they bolted over the factory flat steel bumper. Not sure what a TJ bumper looks like, but pics of my setup can be found here.....

Scott Anderson has since made me a rear bumper with Dring brackets and a swing away carrier. He could make you those brackets and he does really good work. Frame reinforcement brackets (for a CJ anyway) are just angle iron with holes drilled.

Do you have any direct pictures? I couldn't get them to come up. I've gotta snoop around and get a closer look at my front bumper and how those rubber blocks mount. Eventually, I'm going to get a aftermarket front bumper, but for now, the stock one will have to do. I would just like to have a couple of pull points on the front just incase I need them for whatever situation arises.

If you're talking about using the bumper itself as any sort of placement to put a tow point, forget it. The best thing you can do w/o spending a ton of money is get some towhooks that mount on top of the frame rail. The BEST thing you can do is get a good solid aftermarket bumper with D ring tabs welded all the way through the bumper.

Most of these are for the rear bumper, but the brackets are pretty much the same with the only difference being the mounting holes on the rear were not quite centered on the bracket so the brackets would line up using the factory holes in the crossmember. The front brackets had the holes equidistant from the top/bottom/sides of the bracket and the angle iron pictured was bolted to either side of the frame in the front behind the stock bumper.

I wouldn't mount the rings on that bumper at the point where those rubber bumpers are. You're better off getting the tow hook that was a stock option on the TJ. If you do mount d-rings make sure they are secured to the frame. Both the front and back bumper on the TJ are very weak and would probably collapse at the first attempt to use them as a pull point.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I looked under the front bumper and there is really no way to safely mount where I was originally wanting to withough welding on some reinforcment plates. I don't really want to go through all that as I'll hopefully be getting a REAL bumper in the future. Thanks Jeep monkey, I'll probably go along with the factory hooks for now. Thanks again guys! why not just get one of those rampage D-ring shackle thingy's that bolts to the factory holes for the factory tow hooks?

I've looked at those during my search. I'm just going to get the factory style hooks. I don't really like the way those Rampage Shackles look mounted on top. that's just me though.

Personally, I rather wait for my front bumper, which is what I am doing (already got the rear one on; will probably get the front one this month for my birthday!). It's just that I thought that was what you were looking for...

I appreciate the help jfrabat. I wasn't sure if there was a way to "securely" mount a flush style D Ring shackle to the front. It will probably be quite a while before I get a Good font bumper, so I'll have to stick with the factory tow hooks I guess.
