Finished with the Electrac

Well this weekend was the last straw for me. As soon as I have the money the Detroit Electrac that I have in my dana 44 is comming out. It absolutly sucks. I'm sure it works flawlessly when set up correctly the problem is that TracTech is no help at all when trying to set up the lockers actuator. THey just keep telling me to do what it say in the instulation manual. I admit that I not that mechanicly inclinded but I did have the locker installed by a professional and he spent countless hours on the phone with his warehouse also trying to get this actuator set up.

This weekend Im on a ride and decide to try a section of the trail that we call the "rock garden" Well there I am, hung up on some rocks and guess what. Drivers side rear wheel is spinning and the passenger side is just sitting there.

I know the locker was working prior to this becuase I could feel that it was locked when I was making turns but as soon as I need it on the rocks it isnt working.

Anyone have any suggestions what I should put in for flawless operation. What does everyone think of the Detriot SoftLocker???

Thanks

Lincoln Locker or spool, it's the only thing that can be guaranteed to work when you want it to.

pros and cons of headers vs. manifold ?

how much did you pay for the electrac? i was told that they work pretty good and i am going to order one in the next week or so, i read allthe artices and they seem to be pretty good, and i know a buddy thats got one and he loves it whats involved with the instal? i plan on doing mine myself, when i get it, do you want to sell yours? let me know i got a d44 from a waggie that i plan on putting it into.

Electrac, Ox, ARB, they are all only as good as the system that engages the locker, and the quality of the install. They all have thier potential flaws and aren't fool proof. If you want fool proof, there's only one choice.

Whats that bounty??
get out and walk

JK!
I ran a lincoln locker in my old 77 blazer. Very reliable but a bit squirmy on the road. Would not recomend for a daily driver. unless you have manual hubs

I've got Lincoln Lockers front and rear on my daily driver, and it's not the least bit squirrely on the road. It's quite the opposite, as it tracks straighter than it ever has, and there are no sudden unexpected lane changes like those caused by Detroits and other auto lockers when your on and off the gas. It's not for everybody, but the traction and reliability offroad can't be beat.

I payed the normal price for my electrac around $759 or so, I cant remember exactly. I think that the electrac would be an awesome locker if it wasnt so hard to set up. The install is very very basic it goes into the axle just about like any other locker. Then you just run the wires from the switch on the dash to the plug on the new diff cover that is provided. The problem is taht once you have it all hooked up you have to remove the drain plug and turn the locker on and off adjusting a little set screw inside the assembly. You see the actuator moving back and forth, locking and unlocking the locker. Seems pretty simple right? well I found that mine was locking fine until you put any type of pressure to it like on rocks then it would just unlock. I was hung up on some rock this past weekend and all of a sudden only one tire was spinning. Once I was winched back off the rocks the locker was working great on the dirt roads and hill climbs???? I have no idea whats wrong and tractech is no help what so ever.

I am considering selling my locker but probubly wont be able to until the first of the year.
