I have a 2001 Wrangler Sport with the 4L PowerTech; On Start up I seem to have a sqeaky pulley that quiets down an not audible after a few minutes. It can be heard in all weather, warm and cold; Any idea what this could be????

poor mans solution or means to diagnose.

grab a bar of ivory soap, with motor running pick a spot where your fingers will not get yanked off.

hold the bar of soap against the underside of the belt. if the squeeking stops or lessens...... get a new belt. (as soon as the soap wears off its gonna start squeekin again)

The Ivory Soap stopped the squeak!!! So I went out, bought a belt, a few hours, and a whole bunch of swear words, later a new belt was on an the noise has ceased to exist!

you could always try the other poor mans solution.......WD40 or PB blaster....it's worth a shot anyway.

Ummmm, then you're belt will get all hard and deteriorate very fast. WD-40 on there is a bad idea.

Yeah that is why I did not use WD 40 on the belt.....and there is a brand new on on there right now. I also cleaned all the pullies real good before installing a new belt.

glad we could help.

i always hated inspecting belts, often times they require too much damn nosing around to see the defects (most the time hiden by a pulley) i always like the soap. A blind guy could diagnose a bad belt with it (aside from the fingers in the fan blades)
