New Here 1st jeep need paint ideas

Well all the bodywork is done and the CJ is in primer and ready for paint. I'm looking to see if anyone has some pics of other jeeps with different paint schemes. What I'm leaning toward is a fade from white to a sandy yellow from front to rear of jeep. Did a bunch of searching and all I came up with is the factory looking jobs and camo. I also bought a 6 inch diamond plate kit seeing as all the heavy rust was in the usual areas, under the Jeep raised letters in front of the doors and the front of the rear wheel opening. Cut it all out and welded in new metal, didnt get to fussy with filler and blocking it out because the diamond plate will cover it up. Thanks for any input.

is this trouble?

First of all, welcome to Jeepz!! Always good to have new members join us. I like the idea of the paint scheme you mentioned, I think that will look great. Don't really have any tips to help you out, just basically wanted to welcome you to the board. I saw a Jeep in town the other day with a really cool paintjob. It was purple with white lightning bolts and clouds of smoke all over it. It had a blown 350 in it and sounded absolutely awesome!!!

Re: is this trouble?

Thanks, I'm just looking for something a little different from the norm, and thats the road I'm heading down with this jeep too, my chevelle will be donating its motor to the jeep next year when the CJ becomes emissions exempt.

Welcome to the "Zs", 67. Nice project you have going. I highly endorse the high horsepower/weight/size aspect ratio that you will acheive with that donor engine next year, but I smell BIG, BIG trouble with that combo unless you have taken the proper precautions. Gotta sign off for the day, but will view this thread later LBR

Brake drum Froze (rusted on)

What kind of top are you going to run? Will you be topless alot? I ask because a front to back fade is sometimes hard depending on where you intend to place the transition point. Right under the door kind of looks funny sometimes with a different color soft door right above it, or with the door removed and the interior background taking away from the effect. Angled off the cowl, going down and back, it can be finished before the door opening. The majority of the painted sheetmetal is in front, so doing the fade in front of the door balances it better in my opinion. You asked

Can we see some full pics of the Chevelle? Since the engine is destined for the Jeep, and this is a Jeep board......how about elaborating on the combo? How much power? I love Chevelles and all of their GM relatives that are based on the same platform. Great cars.

Well thats what I am looking for on the paint idea, just some general thoughts and suggestions. The motor is tuned way back with low boost to run on pump gas and without overheating even on hot days, it makes roughly 475 hp the way its tuned now. The jeep will remain topless at all times, with the bikini top that is. I have an excellent hard top and full doors for it but have taken them off and have no intention of putting them back on.

The chevelle I have had for 15 years and have an 540 lined up to go in it next year.

RE: Wow! Now THAT

Personally i would stick to a solid color. With a good paint and clear coat, maybe 5 coats of clear to bring out the deepth in the paint and a nice basecoat would make that look badass. IMO, i feel that if you do a paint scheme it would make the CJ look to "busy" so to speak. Jeeps have alot of curves in the body and when you add a paint scheme along with some diamond plating to it, i think it would make it look to busy. Cool colors i think look good with some diamond plating are like a Sonic Blue(Ford), Inka Orange (BMW), or even a Grabber Green (early 70's mustangs). A mineral gray would be kool (Ford) and a cool color for deepth i feel it the Merlot red (ford)and with an extra coat of clear to bring the deepth out, that would look real sharp! thats my 2 cents...

Well I have to agree with you, after thinking it over and takeing in to consideration what Junkpile said about a good place to fade it, seeing the whole part of the body beneath the doors is going to be diamondplate, if I were to fade the 2 colors on the jeep I think would just look half one color and half another.
I have decided to go with this yellow

The window channel on the hard doors is really rough so they will be cut and made into a set of custom half doors, matte black. The rims will be sandblasted and also matte black. With a black bikini top to finish it off.
Oh yeah and the hard top to be sold.

cherokee no start

Very nice Chevelle!! My dad's got a completely stock '67 Malibu and I am in the LONG process of rebuilding a '67 Malibu myself...with a ZZ502 and all kinds of other goodies, which is why it's taking so long!).

Is that a 396 in yours? What will be going into the Chevelle to replace that motor?

The motor that is in it now is a 383 with a 671 blower, thats destined for the jeep, its big brother replacment is almost done, a 540 with an 871 blower.

RE: Suspension setup ?

OH MY LORD! those are going to be 2 extremly badass toys!!! Color is diffrent, easter yellowish, but hey diffrent is how i ride in my book, post pics when its all said and done... that applies to both!

How about painting the whole thing white, then using yellow and orange fireballs on the front. Whit looks good with that color dash pad also.
That motor is pimpin. I see many broken rears and frame cracks in your future. Can't wait to see burnout pics.

Any NY Jeepz wanna go wheelin'?

You know, with a motor like that in there, you could get away with just about any paint scheme.

How about flat black with flat orange flames...Rat Rod style 8)

cam position sensor question....

Isnt that half the fun, fixen the crap you brake......

whistling noise from brake vacuum boost system...

I'm curious about the rest of the Chevelle. What is the setup with the rear axle/suspension? Chassis? How about the transmission? Is it a hotrod, cruiser, or future show car?

How much power is the 8-71 BB supposed to pump out?

That yellow you picked for the Jeep isn't the same shade(buttercream or butternut yellow?) that was available from the factory on your Chevelle is it?
A friend of mine built an 83 that looked like what you're describing for yours. His was a little brighter yellow with black rims, black top, black rhino lined interior..etc...his grill and windshield frame were even painted black. I thought it looked especially nice after the lift, wider Scout axle swap, and he stabbed some 35s under it.

RE: Manual Transmission Drivers-(Survey) What rpm range do u drive

Good eye junkpile, thats the shade I was going for, but I wanted to do a single stage paint because I will be looking to put a glass tub on the jeep in a few years and didnt want to go crazy with paint right now just to take the tub off a couple years from now. So I went with the closest shade I could get in a single stage for a reasonable price.

OK the chevelle, I definitley drive the car, hard. The bodywork is done, I just need to do a little more blocking and spary sealer and color. The color is the paint on the carbs in the pics, tahoe turqoise availible 1 year only on chevelles in 67, the original color of the car. I already own the base and clear coat to do it but have grown really fond of the primer, dont have to worry about it, while I'm working on the jeep I threw a cover on it and put my kids bikes, jeep parts and all kinds of stuff on top of it. When it comes time to take it out, uncover it, a little windex and a rag, good as new. No intention to be a show car.

The rear is a 12 bolt, moroso carrier, richmond 4:10's, strange axles its set up with bagged coils and Hotchkis boxed lower and adjustable upper contol arms. Transmission is a Dynamic racing turbo 400 full competition reverse manual valvebody (no auto features) a 3000 stall converter with a B&M megashifter.

The big block made 706/812 on the dyno, leaning out on the top end, need to do some more carb work to get its full potential to come out. Shooting for 750/850 when all is said and done.

I think thats it, man was harder typing for this long than building the car, man my 2 typing fingers are sore.

RE: Never too tough for MOM!!

The rear is a 12 bolt, moroso carrier

That Moroso Brute Strength posi is one bad mofo isn't it? I wish they made them for D44s.

The Chevelle sounds nice.....also sounds like it needs some minitubs and a couple of fat drag radials out back
